E: found a related bug, maybe it helps

[e10s-multi] Firefox 55 breaks tabs & session with high number of processes and causes critical data-loss
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1352706
I reproduced this bug a couple of times without Stay Open Menu installed so this is not a bug in the addon but a bug in Firefox.

I've been using Nightly for more than 1.5 years and this bug occurred from time to time. I'll try to find good STR and post them on bugzilla.
Sorry for my poor English.

Maybe you are referring to some other bug because in the bug report it states that e10s with ipc more than 8 causes the issue,
with SOM set ipc=8 had the problems in last weeks builds

3.1.0b1 is now available for testing

Changes since 3.0.2

* Added SeaMonkey compatibility
* Added Pale Moon compatibility

Known issue:
The Smart Location Bar Option has no effect on SeaMonkey, i.e. the dropdown does not stay open due to different code used by SM (likely WONTFIX)

The issue with autoclosing on SeaMonkey was that it was tripping over errors caused by calling getElementById on newer (Australis) menu items that are not present in SeaMonkey (or PM). So I expect this should fix it for PM too, though I haven't tested. SM & PM users please test and report success/issues, thanks.

Thank you for the nice update custom.firefox.lady. Everything seems fine on Pale Moon.

The menus now auto-close, and both the "distance from menu" / "Redisplay after Properties..." options work as intended.

3.10b1 won't install in SeaMonkey 2.49; error message says not compatible.
This might be specific to 2.49 since it's still beta.

I don't know if SeaMonkey defaults to compatible like Fx does. I tried manually upping the compatibility on AMO to 2.49.*. Would you please try installing again? Thanks.

Oh wow thanks for the update and SM/palemoon/ESR support is greatly appreciated.
Testing it, Cheers.

Will this addon be obsolete soon?

The beta version still says "Firefox only..." Clicking on "Download Anyway", which
has worked in the past, results in a SeaMonkey message: "...could not be installed
because it is not compatible..."

I tried this with both SM 2.49 beta and 2.46 stable with identical results.

I will try again tomorrow just in case this was the result of some weekend special
at AMO, but don't really expect any change.

<sigh> general AMO beta channel weirdness ...
Bug 1170736
(start reading at comment 26 - on release version you get a download anyway link; beta version does not)

Option 1: (works; not exactly user friendly <grin>)
Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Scripts & Plugins > Disable 'Enable Javascript' for 'Browser'.
Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... open-menu/
Scroll to bottom of page where it says 'Development Channel'
Click 'Download Now'
Click 'Install Now'
Reset your Javascript pref back to enabled

Option 2:
Install AMO Browsing for Seamonkey (fixes AMO weirdness)
Install Stay-Open Menu beta via 'Download' button

Option 3:
Bypass AMO and install from here:
http://www.shadetreeapiary.com/extensio ... -fx+sm.xpi

...tested on 2.46 but probably works for either...hope that helps

Works perfectly. I took Option 3 - if I can't trust you who can I trust.
Thanks.

Will the add-on work after the Firefox 57 update that will only accept WebExtension add-ons? I really like this addon and it would be great to be able to keep using it

No. It is not a webextension, and there is no way to make it one. Firefox Nightly will still allow non-webextensions (by flipping a pref - https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Firefox57). Another option is to use ESR channel (until sometime in 2018) or SeaMonkey or PaleMoon. Personally I plan to use some combination of Nighty and ESR and re-evaluate after ESR no longer supports legacy exts.

I am also attempting to get the core functionality built into fx:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=260611
but it's been slow-going. I've never done a fx patch before, am new to hg, trying to learn about mochitests, and working on it on linux (not my default OS, but the build system requires a 64 bit OS) in a limited amount of time. Getting reviewed appears to be rather slow as well. So no promises there, but I'm giving it a try. Hey, I had no idea how to write a fx extension before I did Stay-Open Menu either <grin>.

I see. Would be great if it were to be implemented into firefox.
