new Gmail password - help!
Hi all. Just wasted an entire afternoon trying to change my gmail pw in TB. Tried everything, incl in desperation uninstalling and reinstalling TB, before giving up and setting up Windows Mail. Which I hate, hence turning my attention back to the TB problem.
Started by removing pw from pw manager and restarting TB. Up comes a google credentials window, with a NEXT button which does not do anything! (Google logo, 'sign in to continue to mozilla thunderbird email) So I can't enter my new pw anywhere. Tried File/New/existing account, set it all up there but get the 'incoming server already exists' error.
Removed and re-added the account, and get the google credentials window again, which still doesn't respond to any click of the mouse. Took a screen shot of this because I assumed I could upload it to this forum, but no. Ridiculous waste of time. So now I have to use Gmail webmail which I hate but which is at least working! TB was working so nicely - can't believe a simple change of gmail pw has caused such chaos.
Can anyone help please? Running TB on Windows 10.

I just changed the password for a google account, deleted the saved passwords in Thunderbird, restarted (since the deleted passwords were still in memory) and when prompted entered the password in the gmail credentials popup window. No problem. I'm using a Gmail IMAP account with TB 52.0.1 configured with OAuth2, and the corresponding google account configured for less secure apps enabled and no two step authentication.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Posting_a_scr ... _the_forum for how to post a a screen shot. I suggest you try again while running Thunderbird in safe mode (help -> restart with add-ons disabled) in case one of the add-ons no longer works correctly and has bad side effects. I suggest you also check that google.com is enabled for cookies in tools -> options -> privacy -> web content -> exceptions, or that it is configured to accept all cookies. The credentials window will break if it can't set a cookie.
If none of this helps I suggest you enable "use less secure apps" in the google account using a browser (don't get me started about how deliberately misleading calling it less secure is) , and change the authentication method from OAuth 2 to normal password in the Thunderbird Gmail account's server settings. That will avoid using the credentials window, which appears to have broken in your installation.

Re: new Gmail password - help!
@tanstaffl: After changing the password for one of my Gmail accounts, I can no longer use OAuth2 authentication (I have had to revert to "Normal password"), because the credentials window is broken in my installation (52.0.1) also. The window appears and displays the correct email address (see screenshot) but nothing happens when I click on the "Next" button, although the click is recognized, as indicated by its changing colour. Clicking on other elements of the window (other than the "close" box) also has no effect, except that the language selection dropdown does display a choice of languages.
Launching Thunderbird in "safe mode" makes no difference. Thunderbird is configured to accept third-party cookies and Google is configured to allow "less safe" apps.

Re: new Gmail password - help!
Yes inrig that's exactly my problem with the credentials window! It means I cannot enter the new password, so cannot use tb at all currently. So strange that changing my pw in gmail would screw previously fine tb up so badly.
@tanstaafl - I will try your suggestions tmw (already tried 'use less secure apps' with no success)
Thanks

Re: new Gmail password - help!
I found https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1157902 where somebody mentioned "Gmail has changed its login front end. It has been announcing it for weeks. But for me, it changed today (I use their web client for my personal account)." I got the normal/old credentials window when I changed my password. https://support.google.com/accounts/ans ... wlook&rd=1 describes the new sign-in page.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.c ... 359297#c32 claims you need to enable history somewhere in https://myaccount.google.com/activitycontrols (log in using a browser), which is supposedly in the "device information" section on that web page. I have device information "paused". Perhaps that is why I'm not running into this problem. I suggest you experiment with pausing that if it doesn't cause problems for any mobile devices you have.
Supposedly this problem is fixed in the upcoming version 55 release. There is a nightly build that will eventually become version 55 (risky, it is untested and you could lose data if you're unlucky, but usually nightly builds work okay) at https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunder ... m-central/ which also has this fix. That has been verified in http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14745125 . Its also supposedly fixed in "updates next week in the form of 54.0b1 and 52.1.0"

Re: new Gmail password - help!
Thanks to tanstaafl I managed to find a workaround for this problem on my computer:
Install the nightly build from https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunder ... m-central/
(for windows it's the file named "thunderbird-55.0a1.en-US.win32.installer.exe")
You don't need to uninstall thunderbird, just close it if it's running
Then open Daily and add your gmail accounts through there
See if everything is working
If it is then close Daily and you can uninstall it
Then open Thunderbird and your gmail account should be there and working

Re: new Gmail password - help!
For what it is worth I have the same issues. I got an email from Google saying someone has my password, so I changed it, but later realised it was because I have Thunderbird to automatically download my email every hour and I was connected to a VPN at the time. But I changed it anyway and then found I couldn't send emails like others here because the credentials windows doesn't work with the NEXT button. But looks like the bug is being worked on, so that is great.
When it comes to downloading the fix properly, will that be a normal release this week or only for people on a special beta channel ? Just that I have precious emails from 2004 onwards on my Thunderbird and don't want to risk beta versions.
Thanks all.

Re: new Gmail password - help!
52.1.0 is available at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ . Uninstalling doesn't delete your profile (which has your mail, settings etc.).
Automated updates aren't enabled yet due to release engineering not working on the weekend. Automated update will initially only be available to 52.x users, not 45.x users.
