Replacing Custom Buttons

Post by roninx »

Since Custom Buttons is no longer being supported, does anyone know of something similar (beside Multirow Bookmarks Toolbar)?

The buttons I want to use are just web links. Can this Pref Bar do that?

There is a MozillaZine.org web link example in the customize window.

You can create a new web link with the context menu.

* open customize window
* right click item list (left or right) to open context menu
* left click "Link" menu item in "New" menu

e.g.

Id: zerohedge
Label: ZeroHedge.com
Url: http://www.zerohedge.com/

Using the PrefBar

Thanks!

I'm starting to get into it and I kind of like it so far, but I can't seem to figure out; Is it possible to have a submenu under a submenu?

I'm curious, are there any other add-ons that do this?

And, are there any that can do this by adding to the title bar? That title bar is just a waste of space.

You can hide the title bar if you do not want to see it.

You can toggle the title bar on/off via the "Title Bar" button at the bottom left in the Customize palette window.

I'm not aware of a way to have a sub menu within a sub menu with PrefBar.
AFAIK then there is only one level possible.

I (as the author) don't recommend PrefBar as there is no way to keep it working after Firefox 57. The proper way to create "buttons" is to create them as standalone Addon. Please also read: http://prefbar.tuxfamily.org/migration.html

Same applies to "Custom Buttons". They don't have any way to make it happen for Firefox 57 as every Addon is only able to have one single toolbar button.

Can you maybe explain in detail what you need?
And in detail means every single detail that could be needed to either find the right Addon for you or maybe to code some small addon to do this task.

CB has a temporary fix on their site, allowing it to run unsigned. So it's not dead yet.
http://custombuttons.sourceforge.net/fo ... 3&start=20

But they've already told me 56 will be the end.

I've already converted all my buttons, most of which are for web pages, into bookmarks, alphabetized and in my first bookmark folder, some with custom favicons. I'm using FF 52ESR, but I'm planning ahead.

I tried that temp fix and it did not work, at least not for me. I'm not that tech savy.

Custom Buttons was my second favorite add-on until I found out about PrefBar, and now both are going to die off.

If my favorite, Multirow Bookmarks Toolbar, ever goes away, I'm gonna be super-pissed!

I use Multirow too :-)

There's one similar to CB that dfoulkes uses, don't know if it will go extinct. PM him.

CB is being supported through FF 56. If you switch to the ESR track, as I have, you'll have it at least another year. The only issue right now is that it's unsigned because it's not any longer on the AMO site. Did you download and unzip just one of the fixes? If it didn't work, did you try the other? I'm "octopod," BTW, on that board.

Well, I'm using the Custom Button forum one OK. But, if you want something that will survive Firefox 57+, then getting good at making bookmarklets is no bad idea. They can do more sophisticated stuff that most people think.

Bookmarklets? I've never heard of that one. I don't use a lot of add-on's.

I may check on that... Thanks.

Earlier, I mentioned something about the title bar and someone stated how to turn it off, but that doesn't work for me. I think it be from one of the add-ons interfering with something. Anyhow, is it possible to add a button to the title bar?
