Double or Single Whammy
Something put the whammy on FF this afternoon. All menu items; File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help appear with a blank black background when selected. If I put the pointer over an area of blackness, function names appear. When I click Bookmarks a long list of very small blank yellow folder icons appears without labels. If I uninstall FF will my personal stuff remain in the appropriate folders so that when I re-install, all my settings, bookmarks, etc will still be there?

Hi,
See if this thread helps...
> http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... ilit=black
&, You might like to try updating the video card drivers.
It appears that it may be a newly "introduced" error, as there are one or 2 threads on the subject.
As for...
For future ref; > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
&, un-re-installing the Program will usually not correct the error, as most of the problems
are caused by a corrupt Profile.
Better off to create a new Profile & use it as-is for a while. Do not add anything to it.
If it works O.K., then you can transfer your Bookmarks, Passwords etc., over.
Link for that is in the Article.

As I posted; all FF menu items and bookmark folders appear blank with a black background. My question is: Can I re-install FF without losing my bookmarks?

Okay I'll bite: How do I delete/create a new profile? FYI: uninstalled FF 52.2.1 and deleted registry mozilla folders. Installed FF 52.2.1 and as you predicted, the problem did not go away.

Hi,
As i mentioned, the link/s for creating a new Profile & Transferring your stuff over are in the posted link.
viz; > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
To transfer your stuff over, with the list of files to transfer......
ref; > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
NOTE: Do not delete the old Profile. Keep it around until you're sure that the new one functions O.K.
Also, please note the WARNING on where you create the new Profile.

Any change if you restart in Safe Mode?
Either of these apply, Button Text color in dialog box or Grey background on text with white shadows unreadable

Hi therube,
Yes. I know I forgot to add that instruction/hint/tip/link but it is in the 2nd link under
"Managing Profiles." I thought that maybe it was sufficient. Dunno?

Re: Double or Single Whammy
Thank you for your responses. Have attempted to follow the instructions in the link without success. Attempting step 1 taught me, "You can't get there from here." It appears that these old instructions do not apply to ver. 52. "Tools > Switch Profile," does not exist in the Tools menu. I've tried every which way I can think of but cannot find/access the profile manager as instructed. Without this vital step there is no way to create a new profile and get rid of the corrupt profile.
Since first contacting the forum about this drop down menu problem displaying every drop down menu as a black, blank rectangle I discovered that when I click "Image" when I search for an item item only a few initial images display. The rest are blank rectangles showing file size when I move the pointer across/down the blank page. I have used FF since it replaced netscape. I have always been reluctant to update because problems usually come with every update but I've never experienced the continuous string of problems that came with v. 52.

Firefox must be closed before accessing the Profile Manager.
