Had to turn off Stylo again. The crash rate seems to be increasing from past builds.

I'm not seeing any of this. What URLs are giving you this?

I've been having lots of crashes. Finally I turned off Stylo. Just waiting to see if the crashes return.

Sorry. WFM. I went to the page. Opened several links. Scrolled up and down.

Anything special to try?

Go figure. Just going to the page was enough to get a crash. I got crashes fairly often so let's see with Stylo off if I get any. Could be a combination of prefs causing it.

Just turned on Stylo again and the site given above crashed on me.

I've noticed a spike in crashes from Stylo over the last few builds, namely bugs bug 1381475, bug 1381233 and bug 1379218.

It looks like most of them are related to bug 1381475:
Bobby Holley wrote:To folks hitting this crash:

The story here is that we've been seeing intermittent issues and low-volume crashes due to abnormal conditions that shouldn't occur. So over the weekend, emilio landed a change in bug 1380789 to release-assert against these conditions to make them easier to track down.

So the good news here is that it worked. The bad news is that it's made your stylo experience less stable, which I apologize for. We'll try to get it sorted out ASAP.

It's possible that there are several issues at play here, so please continue posting STR here if you find new ways to reproduce this panic.

The recent nightlies don't respect layers.prefer-d3d9, true as 52esr does, it appears to be a dead pref. You have to set gfx.direct2d.disabled to true, which is overkill. I don't know if this is intentional but it messes up flash videos in full screen whereas just preferring d3d9 did not.

I added these comments to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1381233:

I also crash many times with Stylo enabled. The only site that consistently crashes for me when stylo is enabled is when my add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... m-page-we/ is also enabled.

About Stylo, I'm hitting this crash Bug 1379617 - stylo: Crash in nsIFrame::SetNextSibling, so no Stylo for me right now.

@ marty60 - D3D9 support was removed completely in Bug 1318558 - Remove D3D9 fallback.

That explains it then. At least dx10 can still be disabled for now.

@ marty60 - D3D10 is still not supported also per Bug 1087521 - Add a D3D10 compositor.
There are now only: D3D11, D3D11 WARP, OpenGL and Basic.

It's Direct3D 11. The problem I'm having on Windows 7 is issues with scrolling that are only resolved by enabling hardware acceleration. But that makes the browser sluggish and I don't care for the fonts. Prior to v55 preferring d3d9 restored the classic fonts and resolved the slow down by compositing with Direct3D 9 while maintaining normal scrolling.

Now I have to disable gfx.direct2d to get the same benefits but it's affecting flash video performance, although that's not so important.

Youtube with the new layout crashes for me with Stylo pretty regularly.

I don't notice much of a speedup with it on either, maybe I'm not looking at the right thing
