Tired of Seamonkey hanging ( v 2.46 )
This happens several times a DAY. I'm looking at a web page and click on the scroll bar, or just in a blank area, and Seamonkey starts spinning a wheel where the cursor was. All I can do is force the program to close and start over again.
If I didn't like this GUI better than any other ( I'm an original Navigator user from the 90's ), I'd switch to Firefox at this point. I'm getting pretty fed up.
Will they ever fix this problem, or does anyone have an idea what causes it, and how to fix it?

That seems to assume that everyone is having the same problem. That doesn't seem to be the case. Will they ever fix this problem,
Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Never tried it, Would it inhibit bookmarks if I did it for several days?

Ok, I started Seamonkey in Safe Mode, it gave those notices confirming it. Then I went about my business. It hung JUST after I'd typed this whole Facebook post text in ( cant post a jpg here? ) , and I had to save and post a screen shot instead of the text. I clicked in a white area and it started the spinning cursor thing, and after 10 minutes, it hadn't recovered. I'm so sick of this.

I'm using SeaMonkey (2.48, 2.49.1, and 2.51) on GNU/Linux
(debian buster, ArchLinux, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and VoidLinux).
And NO problem at all. - Do you have the same problem if you create a new and clean Profile?

You know, this is why I came here, so I could get blamed for the problems with the browser.ElTxolo wrote:DanRaisch wrote:That seems to assume that everyone is having the same problem. That doesn't seem to be the case.Melissa2009B wrote:Will they ever fix this problem,

It's reminiscent of when I had problems with Comcast "high speed internet" and the first thing they did was blame the fact that I didn't want to pay them $120 a year modem rent and bought my own equipment. When it was the fact that their speed had dropped so low from overselling local bandwidth, that we couldn't watch streaming. ( not even mentioning horrendous bufferbloat problems ) And every time I call their support, the first thing they do is blame the fact that "oh well, you know, you're not using our equipment - we cant support...".
Have a nice day, y'all. I'll either keep SM or switch to something else.
And no, I don't feel like wiping out everything, including my profile, and starting all over again.

Hello Melissa,
By creating a new, clean profile, you WILL NOT affect your existing profile if you do so, and you will be able to return to it.
Regards,
Dave.

I didn't blame you for anything. All I suggested was that the problem might not be with the program itself. Yes, the next reply was a bit over the top but since you indicated that you like the SeaMonkey GUI, why not take a little more time to try to resolve the issues so that you can continue to use it without the hanging.

Re: Tired of Seamonkey hanging ( v 2.46 )
I've been noticing the same thing, but I also see it in Firefox. (And maybe once or twice in IE.) And it also clears with a dialog box that a script is running long or a plugin has stopped, and I select quit. And it DOESN'T happen on pages with few or no ads. I've been assuming that an ad network is using a script that hangs or loops. No, I haven't tried safe mode, but since I don't think it's SM, I haven't bothered.
Dan and ElTxolo, do you use Adblock? If you do and my guess is correct, you wouldn't be seeing this.
But then again, I'm just guessing.

- No.
I'm using a 'custom Hosts' file and uBlock0 (open source, GLPv3).
Cheers!
