How to transfer my entire profile from Seamonkey to Firefox

Post by Melissa2009B »

I've been using Seamonkey for many years, because I liked Navigator years ago, but I'm finally fed up. I cant even play Facebook videos now.

So is there a way to migrate everything in my profile over to Firefox, so I can delete Seamonkey?

Not only my Bookmarks but I have special menu tabs on top, for frequently used pages.

Thanks!

You should be able to do what you wish using thes two links, it might help if you had a backup of your SeaMonkey Profile.
To: Firefox
To: Sea Monkey
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you

Wow that's convoluted and difficult to understand. Is there a way to just import the profile from Seamonkey, into Firefox, with the top pull down tabs that I have in Seamonkey, too?

No, there is no import process of that sort. Just copying the files over should do the job and you need only one of the links that Grumpus posted to get the job done. What, specifically, are you finding difficult to understand?

the top pull down tabs that I have in Seamonkey
Are you referring to the Bookmarks Toolbar? Those bookmarks are contained in the Bookmarks, in a folder labeled Bookmarks Toolbar.

See this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Export_bookmarks
Export your bookmarks in HTML format from Seamonkey and then Restire / Import that file into Firefox.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

Ok, I figured out where my profiles are kept. ( cant apparently post a screen shot here because it won't allow pictures? )

But I copied my Seamonkey profile to a backup folder, and then copied it into the Firefox profile folder where I named it "Melissa from Seamonkey to Firefox" and can try to open it in Firefox now. I just don't see how to do that. Apparently I run firefox.exe -p
but then it doesn't see that new name, so it can use it as a profile.

Yeah, I've been asking for a profile export/import utility for *YEARS* now, and all I ever get is a terse "oh, nobody should ever need that...". And it's not just for moving between applications or computers, but *also* for moving from one OS to another (such as MSWin->Linux, or Linux->MSWin). Something that would export the settings to XML, JSON or YAML.
