Q: Can opening a specific website in Firefox really make your COMPUTER hard crash ? (BSOD can be reproduced as much as I want)

My internet provider's homepage is now ALWAYS crashing my whole system (atikmpag.sys driver crash due to graphics driver timeout and not able to restart in time), constantly, in all flavors of firefox, stable, nightly, even Cyberfox.
Hardware Acceleration = Enabled.

When I restart firefox with Add-ons disabled, or use a different browser (Vivaldi) it doesn't crash.

P.S. Atikmpag.sys = display driver of my notebook's ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card.

@ Peja Stija - Could be, because of buggy GPU drivers, so update if you don't have latest one yet.
You could also try reporting this issue on Bugzilla, if it doesn't crash in Safe Mode like you probably meant,
so your GPU driver will be added on blacklist, in meantime just disable Hardware Acceleration by yourself.
Virtualfox persona
Tired of constant Firefox UI changes? XUL extensions are not working anymore? Try SeaMonkey, Waterfox Classic, Pale Moon.

He's on legacy drivers. It's really hard trying to find the best legacy driver, especially for laptops with switchable graphics. The 16.2.1 Beta which I'm using has many issues but I couldn't stand that awful old CCC. I've got a BSOD "Signing out" of Windows with a game and Firefox open, not sure if related but haven't been getting BSODs from anything else.

Yes, my laptop is quite old (10 years) and the specific model is nowhere to be found on Toshiba's site, nor any drivers for it, since a year or 6 ago. :^o
And, indeed, it doesn't crash when I have hardware acceleration disabled. I have no knowledge how to do a proper bugreport on bugzilla, I see that the crashes were sent, don't know if that will make a difference in Mozilla devs eventually blacklisting the drivers ???

Hi Mrere,
The site of my internet provider is

Code: Select all

www.telenet.be
which automatically logs me in and refreshed the page to

Code: Select all

www2.telenet.be/nl/
, don't know if you will get forwarded to the second url if not logged in or recognized by the server though.

I got quite a few BSOD's, but seems only the first 2 crashes got crashreports sent.

Well, there's your fix, I reckon. I have to have hardware acceleration disabled on one of mine - doesn't crash or anything, but HA on gives FF UI graphical glitches.

Hi Peja Stija,
your drivers are really old:

"driverVersion": "8.712.2.1000",
"driverDate": "3-15-2010",

Try these:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/d ... ows+7+-+32

I'm using Radeon HD 5770 with 16.2.1 Beta drivers. No crashes.

EDIT: Mrere, You're a hero ! The drivers below seem to be accepted, and the website doesn't cause a BSOD anymore ! =D> :) =D>
Atleast, If I'm sure hardware acceleration *does* get used, I have "Use Hardware Acceleration when available" ticked and the browser restarted, but how does one see in about:support that graphics acceleration is enabled ?

Code: Select all

Which is crap.

Unless you are trying to convert your legacy extension to WebEX , or trying to develop a WebEx.

Your favorite extension will die and crash and burn. Soon.

Why do you people continue to offer information such as this?

Last 2 hourly m-c win32 builds have crashed during build - anyone still use IRC to get someone to look at issue else we won't have any builds over the week-end.

Maybe it's because the pref is only on nightly channel to help developers converting their addons?

That pref trick to enable legacy extension will not be on beta or stable channel and will be deleted soon on nightly (maybe 58 ?)
