Looks like a few folks didn't think this removal of the download button all the way through.

This change and taking away more and more customization is really ridiculous... ](*,)
I reported it here - Bug 1393213 - Reconsider providing back option to show permanently "Downloads" button and make it movable again in this mode

Are you ready for deprecation of XUL & XBL & XPCOM extensions? Not?! Try Firefox ESR

I just noticed the new tab page is simpler again. For a few days there had been something in the upper left and a box at the bottom which could be closed, but now those are gone.

(I meant to investigate the features, but when I open a new tab it is always for a task so I never got back to investigate.)

Was it an experiment which was reverted. or a planned new feature that was backed out for some reason?

Edit: After I posted it I saw a new tab page with a clickable animal in the upper left. I then restarted Nightly (for a different test) and now there's no animal.

From what is being described, it sounds like the Download button will be like Opera's. IIRC-Opera's appears when there is a download in progress and in the list. It goes away when you clear all downloads.

Chrome leaves the big bar across the bottom of the tab/window. Vivaldi has a side panel.

I'd say that Fx is trying it's own approach. Besides, Ctrl+J will open the download listings.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it,
as better is enemy of good.

Yea, so let's again get back to CLI era to study and remember all these keyboards shortcuts, instead of using easy and fast GUI access with 1 or 2 simple mouse clicks.

Like WildcatRay said, with keyboard shortcuts, so remember to use now Alt + F4, no buttons for us anymore ;)

But if your hands are on the keyboard a keyboard shortcut is faster than moving the cursor to hit a small button. (Especially for people with visual or motor-control disabilities.)

I use both modes (mouse/click vs keyboard) depending on my workflow. Both should be available, and consistent.

Well, that was a truly stupid idea... absolutely zero reasons for this, zero. Now how can I see list of previously downloaded files to open one of them ? What is a replacement for this from UI?
