I noticed in about:support that I have modified a few network preferences and when I set them back to default, the settings will be reverted back after browser restart. Is this normal ?

Re: Network prefs
I believe there was a recent patch on Nightly that disabled 'prefetch', so very likely what you are seeing true, but... usually the end user can re-enable pref's changed by patches.
EDIT: The pref's you show are not what I'm seeing in latest m-c win32 build. Are those 'your' settings ? or what Firefox is setting.

Re: Network prefs
uBlock Origin has settings that force some of the prefetch settings.
Code: Select all

Re: Network prefs
aah, yes, thank you very much, it is caused by uBlock Origin indeed - in Settings - Privacy there is a checkbox for this
so it sacrifices speed/performance for privacy or?

I'm only a noob so somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but yes, I expect it makes a little difference in not pre-loading stuff.Edds wrote:aah, yes, thank you very much, it is caused by uBlock Origin indeed - in Settings - Privacy there is a checkbox for this

Re: Network prefs
Predictive prefetch was disabled by a system addon in Firefox 52 (but not ESR), and then again in 55/6/7. However this is just the predictive prefetch that was introduced in Firefox 48 (and caused problems), not network.dns.prefetch.

I'm okay with Mozilla's decisions, if they think there are some issues. Here I was just talking about "user" modified strings, which was caused by uBlock Origin as we found out.
