I have seen no evidence of a default search engine in SeaMonkey 2.48 or 2.49. The search engine that gets used is the one visible in the search bar. I have a setting in about:config for a default search engine, but it seems to be ignored. Why does this page (https://www.seamonkey-project.org/relea ... onkey2.48/) state that:
"The bug which prevented you to set the default search engine in SeaMonkey 2.46 has been fixed."?
It does not matter whether I use the addressbar for searching, or select something on a page and search for it, what gets used is what appears in the search bar. If I shut down SM, what was in the search bar will appear there the next time it opens. So what is a default search engine now?

That's the proper behavior. You chose your default search engine by assigning it to the Search Bar. This is now your chosen default search engine. If you are wondering which search engine SM uses at installation, I believe it's Yahoo.Anonymosity wrote: If I shut down SM, what was in the search bar will appear there the next time it opens. Re: SeaMonkey 2.48 release notes - default search
(Times past, SeaMonkey [& FF] could have default search engine defined separate from the search engine used by the Search bar. FF nixed that feature. SeaMonkey forced to pick up on that feature too.)

IIRC, the default is now DuckDuckGo. Nice thing about that is you can put "!g" in your search to use google or "!y" to use Yahoo.

That worked the same way in SM 2.46. I saw no change in the behaviour with 2.48.
