Using Google Calendar in Thunderbird via Lightning

Post by txakura »

I've made an attempt at connecting Lightning with my Google Calendar, but the instructions I'm using (from Mozilla Support) reference actions that I can't get to. For instance, the instructions tell me to click the menu button in Thunderbird, then select the Tools menu, then choose add-ons. There is no reference to add-ons when I click Tools. There is, however, a reference to add-ons in the Tools menu, but that menu doesn't contain an option to "Install Add-on From File."

Sure would like some help in getting this done. I can provide a screen shot, but I don't see how to include it here.

Click on the little gear like icon at tools -> add-ons -> extensions in the upper right part of the window pane and select "Install add-on from file" from the list box. Its just to the left of the "search all add-ons" edit field. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_folders has more details (and a picture of the icon), though its used as part of an example to install a different add-on.

I suggest you enable the menu toolbar using view -> toolbars. If you press the ALT key it will temporarily display that menu bar, giving you a chance to permanently enable it via view -> toolbars. The menu button (aka hamburger button due to it looking like a stack of three burgers) saves vertical space but is awkward to use. I think the decision to disable the menu toolbar by default (and rely upon the hamburger button) to cater to somebody with a laptop with a small screen was misguided.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Posting_a_scr ... _the_forum if you still think you need to post a screen shot.

FYI another way to use google calendar with Thunderbird/Lightning is to configure it to use CalDAV, rather than install the google provider add-on.
