The last message was yours, not mine. I don't know what you are asking here.
The only other suggestion I can offer is to create a new Thunderbird profile and, in it, create the same AOL account. If you can get that working properly it would be possible to migrate the message files from the old profile to the new one.

You don't have to do anything about that duplicate post.

Another question.
re: Profile
Would the new Profile with my name (Joe) be in place of my "default" one? And how do I migrate the message files?DanRaisch wrote:The only other suggestion I can offer is to create a new Thunderbird profile and, in it, create the same AOL account. The new profile, with any name, would be in addition to, not in place of, your current profile. That is what will allow you to transfer data from the old profile to the new.

Re: Can No Longer Change Font Colors, and more
Okay, (some) SUCCESS! I used the program manager and created a new profile name "JOE". Then I wrote a test message to myself @verizon.net. (Reminder: Verizon does not "do" email anymore, and migrates mail to the AOL.com. I manually configured the incoming and outgoing servers to AOL.) I the first Test Message, I used the (change) color option, along with Bold, Italics, AND smilies! EVERYTHING was received as sent!DanRaisch wrote:The new profile, with any name, would be in addition to, not in place of, your current profile. The only option I was unable to see was my address book. I had to manually enter my regular account name, since the Address Book doesn't exist for this new profile. Would I have to export it from the default account and import it to JOE???
Now if you can help me migrate the folders, files address book, etc. from the default profile, I would be a happy guy!!!

...which confirms that something was borked in the old profile.
Bringing over the address book is as simple as copying the files abook.mab and history.mab from the old profile to the new. If the old profile had additional address books they will be represented by files with the extension .mab and would have to be imported in the new profile using the extension MoreFunctionsForAddressBook.
The information required to copy data from the old profile to the new was provided in the links in my previous reply.

Re: Can No Longer Change Font Colors, and more
I found and copied the *.mab files from the original (default) to the "new JOE" profile. Now we have one problem taken care of! Now I'm hoping we have some simile fix for the account's file structure and files that are stored there.DanRaisch wrote:...which confirms that something was borked in the old profile.

(Since today is a holiday hereabouts, I think I'll take a break from this project. I'll check in with you tomorrow, Dan.)

Dan, I'm not having much luck with the process. Even with the "less detailed" one.DanRaisch wrote:DanRaisch wrote:http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... hunderbird

I did get Inbox, Sent and Trash populated folders and files. But this was for only for my @verizon.net (I also have a @gmail.com account) but there were NO sub-folders. These are very important to me because they contain most of the stuff I need to keep - medical, confidential, etc.
If I come up with anything new, I'll keep you posted. Maybe I've missed telling you some details that would further clarify the situation.

Re: Can No Longer Change Font Colors, and more
Sub-folders of (for instance) Inbox would appear in a sub-directory of the account folder and the sub-directory would be named Inbox.sbd. Within that would be the files representing those sub-folders.
Is the Gmail account also set up as POP in Thunderbird?

Re: Can No Longer Change Font Colors, and more
SUCCESS!!!!
Last night I was finally able to get (most of) my problems solved. Color, bold, italics, underscore, smilies, address book, my (2) email accounts complete with Folder structure, and finally, some of the saved files. (I doubt if I lost any the were not irreplaceable.)
My method? After asking a LOT of stupid questions of Dan and studying his info, plus those ideas found in the links he provided - I took a little of this and a little of that and made it work. Best of all, I was forced to understand how the Thunderbird program worked. It is what I call the Big Hammer approach! And it WORKED!
Dan, I greatly Thank you for your patience and sage suggestions. I do have one more question to ask before we close this thread.
Can I now make my new Profile the default one? Then can I delete the "old" (original) one?
Thanks again, my Cyber-friend!

Re: Can No Longer Change Font Colors, and more
Yes and yes. To make the new one the default, launch Profile Manager, select the new profile in the list of available profiles, then click on the box at the bottom which reads "Use the selected profile without asking on startup." Run for a week or so to make sure you are not going to want to retrieve anything else from the old profile then you can again launch Profile Manager, click on the name of the old profile and then click on "Delete profile."
If I remember correctly, that may not remove the old profile data from the hard drive but will cause Thunderbird to forget that that profile exists. You can then use Windows File Manager to locate and delete that older profile if you want to.
