Unable to start Thunderbird after ISP down
My internet service provider has just brought me back on line after two days down and I am now unable to start Thunderbird, and also Firefox. I am also unable to send a message to Mozilla Crash Reporter, and in the report there is a Failed to Inititalize comment. This same message is in the report for both applications. Curiously Outlook Express and Internet Explorer both work. Your help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Unable to start Thunderbird after ISP down
Shutdown any anti-virus software you are running.
Download a new copy of the full installer from http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/
Delete the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird
Run the installer.
Restart the anti-virus program.
Note that your saved messages, address books, settings, passwords, etc (if any) are stored in a different directory from the program files and will not be removed by deleting the directory identified above.

Re: Unable to start Thunderbird after ISP down
Thanks Dan. Unfortunately this has not resolved the problem. Thunderbird will still not start and I am unable to submit a report and have the same message Failed to Initiate. I tried the same for Firefox and that still behaves the same. I do have Profile Manager set up for both programs, with two profiles, could that be the problem? Should I re=create Profile Manager again?

Re: Unable to start Thunderbird after ISP down
You can certainly try creating a new profile but if the program itself can not be initialized I'm not sure it will help.

Re: Unable to start Thunderbird after ISP down
The fundamental problem is I am unable to actually start either Firefox or Thunderbird, and therefore unable to create a new profile. Another possibility is I am usinf XP, and would I need to download and older version?. But of course when my ISP restored my connection this fault occured.

You can get a copy of Firefox 52.0.2 ESR here -- https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/rel ... esr/win32/

Re: Unable to start Thunderbird after ISP down
I installed the XP version and that does not work nor does it produce a report. Would it help if you saw the report from Thunderbird? Of course I cannot post it, nor can I copy and paste it. Are these reports saved on my system somewhere? I could re-create it if necessary.

Re: Unable to start Thunderbird after ISP down
Is there a crash report number displayed that you can post here?

No crash report number. The only line missing from this window is the software version number.

Re: Unable to start Thunderbird after ISP down
I removed the two profiles and tried to run Thunderbird, but the same problem, it would not run, produce an error report as above and could not post it. I then copied an older profile, thinking the outage may have corrupted the data, but I still have exactly the same problem. I am now stuck. Is it possible you could send me the url for an XP compatible version of Firefox. Any other suggestions, please.
