printout of address book

Post by gilloz »

With my Thunderbird program in Windows 10, how can I make a text printout of my address book? Last time I tried this, I got one address printout per page as oppose to a listing of addresses.

I was able to print it using file -> print address book (in the address book window). I printed it to a .pdf file by choosing a "Microsoft print to PDF" print queue. It looked fine. I don't have my Brother laser printer currently connected, otherwise I would have printed to it. Worst case you could print it to a .pdf file like I did, and then print that .pdf file to the printer using your normal print queue.

I tried to print to a file - gave it a name but where does it go to? Didn't get an option of where I want the file to be saved Can't find it by searching the PC.

I just tried the Print function: not exactly great, as I got 113 pages (as a PDF fortunately) for 500 names.

Instead of that, I would suggest that you export your address book using the menu Tools –> Export . Then select "System Encoding" and "tab separated".
The output will be a ".txt" file that you can open with a spreadsheet program like LibreOffice Calc or Microsoft Excel. You just have to right-click on the file and "Open as".

All columns of your address book will be exported, although I think there is a limit of 256 or 32767 characters on free fields like the "Notes" field. Then, as it is a spreadsheet, sort and print the columns you want in the order you want.

@TRAINSGWR

When I print to a .xps document, Thunderbird opens the Windows OS save file dialog box.

I've noticed sometimes that dialog box is hidden behind another window. Try using ALT Tab to find the window next time.
