archived mail folder to zip file

what is the easiest way to take an entire archived mail folder contents and export to a zip file?

Do you want to store the messages in that archive in one file, as they are stored by Thunderbird, or as separate files, one per message?

What is recommended here? I just need all message and content saved to a zip file and easily searchable and viewable in the future. The above link does not have details about saving to a zip file.

I've seen no previous recommendations for Zipping a message folder or message files. Why are you specifying that format?

The original request is to move the message archived on my local drive to a zip file. It would be the easiest way to move them to a storage device and efficient on disk space utilization.

Just Zip the message file that represents the archive folder. It will be in the Thunderbird profile and have the same name as the folder. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
