Usually, I right click and select 'Save As' or whatever.

Never mind. What jscher2000 suggested is much easier.

I also usually right-click the green button > Save Link As.

If you're not using a *FF* web browser, or if you have a screwy useragent, like the OP, right-clicking the "green button" (aka, the Green Wall of Death), gets you nowhere.
Using the /versions/ (or even the main) page, & disabling JavaScript, then right-clicking, Save Link As, is usually effectual.

Is it possible to copy/save the .xpi files for specific extensions from an existing system and use the .xpi roster file in a new installation of Firefox on a clean system?
Placing them in the proper location before hand. Does a saved profile accomplish this?
Same version of Firefox on both old and new system.

Yep and use the info in the Help>Troubleshooting Info. to give you the proper extension names as well as the gibberish GUID names that you'll see them as in the extensions folder.Grumpus wrote:Is it possible to copy/save the .xpi files for specific extensions from an existing system and use the .xpi roster file in a new installation of Firefox on a clean system?

yes, is possible, if it is signed. (no, i dont write about using unsigned extensions because it makes firefox vulnerable)
yes, you can extract extensions from a profile, either packed or unpacked*.
* -> pack as ZIP and rename to XPI (file-extension)

Yep, it was easy over 2 months back as well - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14769053noway1 wrote:That's an easy one.

Sorry about that. Is there a moratorium on responding to open threads that are 2 months old? I guess I could start a new one. However, I would be eager to read your solution to downloading the Black Shine theme I mentioned in my related post above.Frank Lion wrote:Yep, it was easy over 2 months back as well - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14769053noway1 wrote:That's an easy one.

Re: How to download *.xpi but NOT install it?
Two month old threads are not that old. The objectionable bit here was posting a link to persona/theme that has nothing to do with the OP's question. It that was not "advertising" it was easy to perceive it as such and therefore to consider it off topic.
