Which of these is the correct download link?

Post by BrooksNYC »

Good morning. Image

I'm looking to to install. Firefox 55.0.3 .on Win 7 Pro, x64. If anyone with a spare a moment could tell me which file to grab, I'd be most grateful.

http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/55.0.3/

Do I want.....

win64-EME-free/
or
win64/

?

Also, will I be downloading a full installer? I prefer a full installer to a setup stub (if that's the right terminology).

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
You will probably use this one...seeing as all 64 bit OS's, I believe, will be auto-updated to the 64 bit version.

Moving to Firefox Support...
[Ancient Amateur Astronomer.]
Win-10-H/64 bit/500G SSD/16 Gig Ram/450Watt PSU/350WattUPS/Firefox-115.0.2/T-bird-115.3.2./SnagIt-v10.0.1/MWP-7.12.125.

(Always choose the "Custom" Install.)

Why are you wanting an old version?
If in fact you do want that, be sure to have disabled updates prior to installing, lest you get updated immediately thereafter.
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Thank you, LIMPET235. Looks good!

Wisely or not, therube, I like to hang back and wait for "audience feedback" on the latest release before installing it.

Thanks for the reminder about automatic updates. Although I usually check to make sure they're turned off, it never hurts to be reminded.

Appreciate your help, one and all.

what is EME
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Media/EME

full installer of regular - here and only here.
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

v54/55 are outdated and vulnerable and have bugs. not recommended.
it is possible to disable such media features in prefs.
if you want to stay on an older version please get v52esr to make it simple for you and us.
using v55 is not helpful for you and us.

Thanks, Brummelchen. That's where I've always gone for the most recent version, and the only reason I didn't go there this time is because I wanted v55 instead of v56. However.....

In light of your warnings, I won't install anything until I've checked out v52esr. (This is the first I've heard of 52esr, so thanks.)
