Cannot close Firefox

Post by Lindegard »

Hi, I've been a Firefox user for many years, and never encountered this problem before. Whenever I click on the "X" to close, I get a chime and no closure. It is impossible to close from File because the tool bar is screened and I can't click on anything there. If I click on any part of the Firefox page, I get that annoying chime and nothing happens. That chime driving me crazy, so any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! :-)

Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

What is "screened"?

I'm guessing "grayed out" but let's see what the OP says.

Oh, so then all part if this.
In that case, I'd guess that FF is compute bound, in a state it may never recover from (i.e., essentially hung).

How much CPU is FF eating at these times?
