privacy.trackingprotectionenabled NOT = Options checkbox?

Assume I go to

about:config

and set
privacy.tracking.protection = false

Afterwards I go to Options--->Privacy & Security --->Tracking Protection

then the checkbox "Use Tracking Protection in private Browsing to block unknown trackers"
is still ticked (if it was before).

So it seems to me that changing the about:config parameter does NOT have any effect on the visible checkbox it options.

Is this true?

Is there any other (SECOND) way of checking if the parameter is really disabled?

I meant privacy.trackingprotection.enabled

But the actual question is still unanswered

i see what you mean - ofc that is affected - but its not set to true - it is deleted
when i change from always to never it is deleted and another created
user_pref("privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled", false);

anti tracking in PB results in true.
(i compared my prefs before and after)

That check box changes the value of privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled.

Setting "Send websites a “Do Not Track” signal that you don’t want to be tracked" to Always changes the value of privacy.donottrackheader.enabled.

To change privacy.trackingprotection.enabled you have to go into about:config and toggle it manually. I enabled it and then things like Twitter widgets failed to load as an example of what happens.

You can set this pref to true on the about:config page to see more "Tracking Protection" choices in "Options -> Privacy & Security" (about:preferences#privacy).

As far as I can see the Tracking protection can only be disabled for ALL web sites or none.

Is there really no way to enable tracking protection only for a limited number of website (definable by the user)?

thats right. and yes, no exclusives. use ublock or umatrix. tracking protection is supported from disconnect.me list, thats is somehow part of ublock.
in firefox 57 there is no visible option to disable disconnect.me - either standard or advanced. i dont care, i use ublock. and i dont care if some site needs protection and another not. in fact the firefox feature is not intrusive on regular websites. if you need a paranoid mode get ublock and umatrix ^^ but that will filter websites to death.

There is in FF57 a tracking protection icon in the URL bar which appears on some sites. By clicking on the icon you can disable it for that particular site as shown here [2nd icon] even though tracking protection remains on globally; you can also re-enable it.



I have not thoroughly investigated this but it appears to work that way. I do not know where the exceptions list is stored.

In my case I had to disable it in order to watch video on a news site.
