Thanks Allande, but I disabled Avast and Firefox wouldn't start. I've reverted profiles.ini back to the original file with no results. And I've not been able to start the Profile Manager as Firefox won't start at all. Unfortunately, I do use Thunderbird.

You can still try Firefox Portable 52 ESR.
Or, create a new windows user, and in that user account install Firefox and see if it starts. A separate user account will not affect your main Firefox user data.
Login as administrator, or if your account has admin already you can just follow the steps: https://www.howtogeek.com/226540/how-to ... indows-10/ Then signout and sign in to the new user and install Firefox.

@ eldubya :

This may not apply to you at all, but I felt I should mention it anyway, just in case :

Somebody on the Mozilla support forum, who had the exact same problem, just posted this :

"took down my Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 - physically and all the installed software.

After the usual re-boot of Windows AND re-installing Firefox - BINGO! "
