Noticed on one site FF57b10 memory usage goes very high.
Visit http://www.foxnews.com/ and browse for a while (5 to 10 minutes) opening various links.
Using FF57b10 memory usage went from the normal 500M - 700M to 2G+.
Using FF56.0 memory usage was normal 500M - 700M after 45 minutes on that site.
NOTE: Started FF57b10 is safe mode and the problem remained.
[I am on Mac Pro desktop using macOS 10.13] Wondering if this unique to Mac and/or do others see this on this site
Filed Bug 1410645

Remains around 700 here after 20 minutes, clicked around, watched a few vids and 'Live', e10's enabled.

Can't reproduce on win64.
Firefox 57 seems to have a lot of problems on MacOS. Heavy energy impact, huge memory bloat, slower than on Windows. I wonder why that is with MacOS being a platform for many Firefox developers.

According to them they do better than both Safari and Chrome on memory. There was a bug being worked on about laptop battery usage, I don't know if that landed yet.Lurtz wrote:Can't reproduce on win64.

Thanks. Looks like this is not a priority. FYI, I did not look at any vids on Foxnews site, only articles. Since it only happens on one site I can work around that.

If it's with some extension, it's probably Bug 1386177 - Very high memory usage after watching many HTML5 movies on Firefox with uBlock Orgin, even after closing them all
Virtualfox persona
Tired of constant Firefox UI changes? XUL extensions are not working anymore? Try SeaMonkey, Waterfox Classic, Pale Moon.

As noted in the original post the issue remains in safe mode -> all extensions disabled; also, problem is there even if I watch NO videos.Virtual_ManPL wrote:If it's with some extension, it's probably Bug 1386177 - Very high memory usage after watching many HTML5 movies on Firefox with uBlock Orgin, even after closing them all

If I turn Javascript off there is no issue other than loosing some of the functionality (e.g., can't watch videos) with the memory sitting at ~380M. After turning JS back on memory jumps to about 1.2G doing nothing.
Note that foxnews.com has numerous links on the left of the main page to videos and a live feed to the Fox News channel in the upper left. These are disabled with JS off.
Perhaps since I see this on no other site, foxnews.com is cramming too much video/feed onto their main page which drives the memory issue on FF57 on Mac.

Re: Memory Issue with 57b
Been using 57 for 7+ hours a day since it was released as Nightly and have seen no issues on Mac. Foxnews.com is the only issue I have seen.Lurtz wrote:Firefox 57 seems to have a lot of problems on MacOS. Heavy energy impact, huge memory bloat, slower than on Windows.
