Paste image from clipboard inline

I love the convenience of being able to ctrl v paste an image in gmail.

In Thunderbird I can't paste from the clipboard, I have to save to a temporary file first, then select the image and put in the file locations.

Is there a way of pasting an inline image from the clipboard I don't know about?

That's not happening here.
Where are you trying to paste the image, directly into the body of a message being composed?
Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

@danraisch I tried that and it worked! Then I restarted as normal and it worked. I'm scratching my head but I'm delighted!! Thanks
