Email content displayed on black background

Post by rigsby999 »

Windows 7 Pro / TB v52.4.0

Firstly, apologies if this is addressed elsewhere.

When I click on an email (looking at the layout in 'Classic' view), most emails are displayed on a black background and are unreadable. When I click on 'Reply' and a new window opens, everything is as it should be i.e. back text on a white background with blue links etc.

The 'Composition' settings within Options specify black text/white background.

I have started TB in Safe mode with all addons disabled and the same thing happens.

Any ideas as to what's causing the problem ??

Have you tried menu path View->Message body as->Plain text?

Thanks Dan. 'Plain Text' is nearly there but 'Simple HTML' works fine. Still white text on black as opposed to the other way around but at least I can read it.

Thanks.

That's weird. Try menu path Tools->Options->Display->Formatting->click on "Colors" button->select text and background colors and then use the drop down list below it to select "Always". That will cause Thunderbird to ignore the colors selected by the senders and use only the colors that will enable you to see the messages most clearly.

Oh, and are you running any sort of third party Windows theme/color scheme?

Thanks. That suggestion worked - it was set to white text on black and I reversed it - It's all gone back to normal; and the answer to your last question is no.

So the answer is - it's all there in the 'Options' if you know where to look.

Thanks again. Job done.
