How to add "Find" (Ctrl+F) to the context menu?

Hi!

I want to add "Find" (Ctrl+F) (Menu bar > Edit > Find) to the right-click context
menu of my Windows 7 Pro pc.

I want to be able to select some text, right-click on that selected text, and have
"Find" appear as one of the options to then left-click on.

And after I've left-clicked on "Find" in that context menu I want the actual "Find"
popup window to appear (i.e., what happens when you press the Ctrl+F keys)
with my selected text pasted into its search window and the "found" numbers of text
indicated and highlighted in the body of the page. All I need do then is to click the
up or down caret, or press enter, to move the focus to the next found text.

My goal is eliminate the tedious and repetitious doubleclicking to select text, then
keying Ctrl+C to copy the selected text, Ctrl+F to open Find, and Ctrl+V to paste
my copied text into Find's search field.

I'm using Firefox 56.0 (64-bit).

Anyone know of a way to accomplish adding "Find" to the context menu?

ctrl+f is a firefox function - no longer allowed in v57 to access.
either you need a highlighter or another context search extension.

investigating in legacy extension is pointless.

I'm doing something similar in Google Chrome. I'm using native messaging to call a python script to simulate a Ctrl+C, Ctrl+F, Ctrl+V keypress sequence.

Are there any extensions using native messaging on AMO yet?

If I have something highligted in the page and hit CTRL+F, the find bar opens and the highlighted text is automatically put in the find bar. No need to CTRL+C, CTRL+F, CTRL+V. Is that not working the same for you?

The item in about:config : accessibility.typeaheadfind.prefillwithselection has to be set to true.
It was set to false in my system.

True is the default at least in v57.

That preference is set to true in my release version profile that has been in use since probably v29. True appears to be the default value, since it is not bold/noted as being modified by user.

firefox 57 takes a marked string when ctrl+f. sorry, when i misunderstood the question.

However, the focus of the conversation shifted from my OP
which was about adding "Find" (as in "find in this page"
(Ctrl+F) to the context menu.

I know that if I select a word/phrase and Ctrl+F that the
item is automatically pasted into the search field that
pops up.

But having to press Ctrl+F is not what I'm looking for.

I want to eliminate having to press Ctrl+F.

Instead I simply want to select a word/phrase with my
mouse, right-click, and see Find as one of the options
in the context menu.

Then, after I mouse down to Find and select it, the same
popup that pressing Ctrl+F comes up, with the selected
text already pasted just like pressing Ctrl+F would do.

Anyone know of a way to add the Ctrl+F function to the
context menu?

you want a highlighter - i have that asked before, thats not find - ok, its not find that way, its find = highlight same terms in page.

i have a nice extension in chromium running (searchbar) which popups when i marked strings - i can use buttons to search or highlight same words. unfortunately it dont run in firefox - not even close, complete fail.

i search nearly everything on AMO (firefox 57++), nothing found yet - no context search, no highlighter, no "find in page". pity - you have to wait.

for firefox you can try this one (did not test myself, not possible)

I am trying the addon you suggested.

Its not bad!

I wish it would pull up what Ctrl+F does, in addition
to it highlighting all the hits on the page, but at least
its a step closer to what I'm looking for!

You could also try a menu editor to add "Find in Page" to the context menu.

Unfortunately, I don't know the command you need to add. AND, if you update to Fx 57, the menu editor will no longer work.

The highlighter extension does seem to do what you want, but who knows if that will work in Fx 57, too.
