Can no longer save downloads to shared network drives

Post by Arskin_Fertrubble »

After an update this morning I can no longer save downloads from Firefox to mapped shares. The shares are not visible. If I try to save to the server by address or hostname (NETWORK), selections are greyed out.

What gives? A new feature?

Now on 56.0.1 (64-bit)

I have established the behaviour is Firefox only. Other applications and browsers let me save to network shares.

Moving to Firefox Support.

Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

Are the drives mounted? If they are hidden have you tried to unhide them.
You may want to see if there are any new limits to the write permissions for those drives.
Maybe this map a net work drive might help.
There's also some current links in Google within the past year.
Lastly there's been some recent dhcp updates and you may want to see if this caused any trouble with the IPs

Are you running FF in Adminstrative mode (As Administrator)?

(Something about shares & Admin vs User level...) -> Windows 7, connecting network share.
(If it were this, you would expect earlier FF versions to react similarly, but who knows.)

Maybe as a test, create a new Profile, then run FF "As Admin" (assuming it is not by default), & see if that Profile is able to see your shares.
Fire 750, bring back 250.

In some systems you're not able to mount another drive as administrator/root from some file managers.
It may be a protection to keep from breaking the permissions or to keep exploits from roaming throughout the local hardrives.
