Warn Me When Websites Try to Redirect or Reload the Page

Post by unknownsoldierx »

What happened to the option to enable "Warn Me When Websites Try to Redirect or Reload the Page"?

I just looked at Options for the first time since before the recent updates. Looks like the majority of settings have been removed.

There used to be security warning settings (items) in about:config for "Warn Me When Websites Try to Redirect or Reload the Page" but they also appear to have been removed. :-k
However it still seems to be working if it had been previously set.
I suspect it is now controlled by Phishing Protection under Privacy & Security.
Block Dangerous and deceptive content
Block Dangerous downloads
Warn you about unwanted and uncommon software

There's also Warn you when websites try to install add-ons
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you

The changes and removal of menu options seems to be accelerating the move to be more like Chrome. The only reason I've used Firefox all these years is because I hated the minimalist Chrome interface. Combined with the the threat to so many add-on extensions, I suppose I should join so many others and begin to switch to Chrome.

"Warn Me When Websites Try to Redirect or Reload the Page" was meant as an accessibility feature.
It only works for some cases of redirection and not for others.
Instead of fixing this to make it work for other cases it was decided to hide this from the Options.

You will now have to modify this pref on the about:config page to enable or disable this feature.

Bug 1386910 - Google translate doesn't work in Firefox (meta refresh in iframe is blocked without the option of unblocking it), when the option "Warn you when websites try to redirect or reload the page" is set
