With layout.display-list.retain;true it's fun to mouse around on pages and see what elements disappear. For instance, on the forum here, I use a user script to fix the sidebar when scrolling. If I scroll down a little and then mouse over the sidebar, link elements disappear. Also, on Android Central, the "social" buttons are fixed, so when you mouse those they disappear, too.

Maybe this is a feature and not a bug. Add some fun to browsing. :-"

Pot luck browsing! Will the element show or will it not? Doll the dice and find out. Free for a limited time only.
Cheers!

Seems to only be happening on fixed items after you scroll around. If you go back to the top of the page, it's like it gets reset and the disappearing act stops.

Fullscreen video on Youtube also doesn't work with that setting.

It may be worth us pooling together some of these issues and raising bugs for them. What does everything think about that idea? It may help to get some of these issues resolved.
Cheers!

Confirmed. Video not in fullscreen sometimes doesn't work as well, for example: https://vk.com/video-3156562_456239978

I remember how a bunch of users reported bugs with Quantum DOM scheduler. As Bill McCloskey later pointed out, scheduler code was not ready for testing so bug reports were basically useless. So, the question is: is layout.display-list.retain ready for testing or not?

Display List bugs probably need to block the meta bug?

It probably also wouldn't hurt if someone started a display lists thread in Builds and people could comment on things they see in that thread and once we've all decided it is a bug it can be reported from there. The thread should have some sort of background on what it is, why it's important, and how to triage what you are seeing to make sure it's really a bug.

As pointed out by the dev responsible for retained layers, he landed the code to avoid bitrot... he knows it's not ready, that why it's not enabled by default. Also, he is going to land a patch to require a restart when enabling this feature.
