Scripting actions (Linux)

User Help for Mozilla Firefox

I'd like to script actions including some in an add-on (in my case multiple-highlighter) I also need to call the script with a shortcut but I can't find what language I should use or even where to begin to learn scripting for firefox.
In case it matters, I'm on Linux.

With some changes to using the Rust programming language or a modification thereof maybe this might help Developer documentation site

Thanks, I didn't know about Rust and it seems very interesting.
In the mean time I found a much quicker way to do what I want without any programming so I won't learn Rust just for that.

the add-on has context menu options. I didn't know that so I manually copied and pasted the text in the fields.
