Firefox 56.0 64 bit momentarily freezes constantly

Post by Rick919 »

Hi

I am having problems with the browser freezing momentarily every couple of minutes or more often. The message "browser not responding" at the top appears, the little blue circle and the it's either a quick screen flash or the browser blinks off for a second then all is well for a couple of minutes .Other times it just freezes with no messages for a few seconds . I can still move the mouse so the entire computer isnt froze

This is on a Windows 10 machine with the lastest fall update with a AMD processor. I do show 2 profiles ( I dont know why) and opening up a new browser session with the other profile didnt change anything. Same results in safe mode.

I do use Thunderbird if that would have any bearing on the 2 profiles?

Any suggestions appreciated
Thanks in advance

Check to see if any of the troubleshooting steps in this support article help at all: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fi ... responding

One of those is to Refresh Firefox, but ignore that for the time being since there are less drastic measures which can be tried before you have to go that route.

when released it is available here - and only here - or automatic update (AUS)
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

and currently there is still 56.0.1 available.
and thats why you dont find any release notes.

archive.mozilla.org is NO valid release channel

I am having the same issue today since the 56.0.2 update. It took almost 20 minutes just to create an account here and type this.

Any thoughts?

Hi Sean1969,

Did you see the post by "Reflective?"
Have you tried any of those suggestions, other than "Refreshing Firefox?"

Just create a new Profile & then transfer your "stuff" over to it.
This is much easier & quicker to perform.

Thank you. That seemed to work. It appears that I didn't need to transfer anything. As soon as I logged into my FF account in the new profile, it synced up and started running smoothly again.

Thanks again.
