Adblock Plus No Longer Works

Post by wingspar »

No idea where to post this, but very recently, ads are appearing everywhere in places I Never used to see ads. At the beginning of YouTube is one. Many can not be blocked by using the “Blocking Image Filter” drop down like they used to be. Why is this happening?

Try uBlock Origin, I think it's much better than the adblock variants - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ck-origin/

Perhaps the methods used to display the ads have changed & the filters haven't caught up yet.

URLs where you're seeing ads?

Yes, Ublock Origin, I think is the best ad blocker, but I imagine the filters of Adblock plus are still catching up, did you also let the Adblock Plus team know about your problem?

.
Ublock Origin is the way to go. It is much lighter and does not allow certain ads by default. It is also FF57 compliant.

Never heard of Ublock Origin. Will it work side by side with AdBlocker?

This is a site I don’t go to very often, but it’s as bad as it gets for ads. https://www.northwestfirearms.com/ Every time I go to a new thread, there are more ads to add to AdBlocker. It’s never ending and is like this in forums all over the web where I never used to see ads. Never used to see ads on YouTube, but they are a little overwhelming now, appearing at the beginning of most videos now with the option to close the ad afer 5 seconds.

Reading some threads today I see many references to FF 57. This morning I updated from 56.0.1 (32 bit) to 56.0.2 (64 bit). Don’t know why the 32 bit to 64 bit, but it now tells me that I am up to date. Where is FF 57 and could it solve my problems with AdBlocker?

Firefox 57 is currently in Beta. It is scheduled to be released November 14, 2017.

I don't know how that will affect AdBlocker.

I personally use uBlock Origin as my ad blocker and works pretty well on the sites I frequent. Plus, uBlock Origin works with Firefox Release 56, Beta 57, and Nightly 58; I have uBlock Origin installed in all three versions. I also have the Chrome variant of uBlock Origin installed in Chrome Stable 61.

I recenty switched to uBlock because Adblock Plus/Adblock Element Hiding Helper was going to be downgraded with the transition to webextensions, and I won't cry over it. My Adblock Plus had gotten clumsy in a variety of ways. I think it hasn't been properly maintained for some time.

Absolutely NOT. That is a very bad idea.

I’m guessing that if there is no check mark next to Disabled, AdBlock is enabled? I do not have a check mark next to disabled and I still see ads on that page.

So, if I install Ublock Origin, would it be as simple as just going into the Add-ons-Manager and disabling AdBlock?
