Problem with my banking

Post by janepaul38 »

My daughter sent me an etransfer and I could only go so far and the buttons stopped being highlighted so I could proceed. I phoned the bank IT and they were unable to find a reason that it wouldn't work. IT recommended I try Internet Explorer and everything worked fine and I was able to finish the transaction. IT said there must have something to do with Firefox and it's last update. I never had a problem before the last update with my online banking.
Also, I noticed, the last update has installed 32 bit version and I had a 64 bit version previously. This has happened a couple times before and has become a real nuisance.
I prefer Firefox browser and have used it for a number of years, but the past year or so, I have had problems arise after some updates and really wish these updates would stop changing my 64 bit version to 32 bit version. :?

It's very unusual that you report the Firefox update replacing your 64bit version with 32bit as the last updates have been installing 64bit versions in place of 32 bit. (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/5 ... easenotes/ ) I suggest that you download a copy of the 64bit installer for version 56.0.2 and replace your existing installation of the program.

Close all applications and reboot the computer.
Shutdown any anti-virus software you are running.
Delete the directory C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Run the installer.
Restart the anti-virus program.

As for the bank issue, it could be interference from an installed extension, interference from security software not fully permitting the last update of Firefox to function with the site's security, or other correctable factors. After reinstalling as above, you might try running Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode the next time an issue like that arises.

Okay thanks to you all. Now I have another problem. It shows my location as being in England and I live in Canada. I have followed all the instructions for changing your location, but it insists on keeping me in England.

Did you try switching off "Location aware browsing" in Firefox? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/geolocation/

When you login to your bank do you see an extended validation UI in the location bar? This means that not only should you be able to see a green padlock, but also the name of your bank to the right of that. Here's an example of one: https://www.globalsign.com/en/ssl-infor ... rtificate/

If you can only see a green padlock with the bank's address preceded by "https://" you might be connecting to a rogue server in what's known as a MITM (Man-In-The-Middle) attack: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-in-the-middle_attack

As a precaution download the trial version of Malwarebytes and run a full scan. The free trial is valid for 14 days during which you get protection against ransomware as well. After it expires the application reverts to a standard antivirus which you can continue to use free of charge: https://www.malwarebytes.com/support/releasehistory/
