Which script blocking add-on should I install ?

Post by glfire »

Hello,

I'm using u-Block Origin to stop ads ( previously I was using Adblock Plus ) and I want to add a script blocking add-on.

My question is, should I install NoScript, use the newer uMatrix or u-Block is enough with some custom configuration ?

Thank you.

Depends on why you want to block scripts.

For example:
  • If you want to block scripts for security reasons, use NoScript.
  • If you want to block scripts for privacy reasons, use µMatrix.
  • If you want to block scripts on a few select sites to remove annoyances, a few custom uBlock Origin filters should be sufficient.
Also, keep in mind that these three addons are not mutually exclusive. I use all three side-by-side and it works well for me.

There's also Yesscript 2, which has a blacklist (instead of a whitelist).

Mainly I want to block scripts for security reasons, but even for privacy.

Will the combined use of Noscript and u-Block have a significant impact on browser performance ?

I don't think so.

IMO NoScript works very well and having had some Application Boundary issues with my ISP and seeing how the NoScript people have kept up with the webex changes and other issues for security it seems to me something every Firefox user should deploy. Some say it's too complicated but it does not seem that way to me.

I do some tests with both of them and see how they work.

Thank you

if you dont use two special functions in noscript you better deal with ublock only. it block adsd and scripts - and not only privacy reasons (which is wrong)
