Unable to log in to Craigslist

Post by Decidedly Devious »

I know there have been issues with the latest FF versions showing 404 pages or causing other site issues.
Well, I got a 404 with a cow (nothing unusual about the cow - seen it before).

But I searched this forum and evidently I'm the only one who can't log in to Craigslist.
So far that's the only site I recall having trouble with. Obviously I'm logged in here, and I can get into eBay and my Gmail accounts.

It was enough to make me downgrade from v56 to 54.0.1 last week.
Then today I decided to try 56.0.1 and am having the same problem.
I thought perhaps it was caused by the Privacy Settings or Random Agent Spoofer extensions, but after disabling them there was no change.

It's NOT the password - I use 1Password and it enters the same one in Safari and Chrome.
And FF isn't auto-filling the wrong one - it's disabled and there are no saved passwords.

Clear the browser cache and delete any cookies relating to the site(s) involved.

For Mac, cache clear is Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network. Cookies are at Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Show Cookies.

Oh please Dan, give me a little credit.

I wish it were that easy.

Done and done many times.
I have the Empty Cache extension in the toolbar and I use a cookie manager.

It's obviously caused by the new version because when I reverted last week it worked fine.

OK. I don't see, though, that you've tried Safe Mode yet. Have you? (It's an unlikely "fix" but costs nothing to try.)

Alright, you caught me there.
I meant to try that last night, then got busy & forgot.

\:D/ SUCCESSFUL LOGIN IN SAFE MODE! \:D/

But it looks like it's gonna be a stubborn B to diagnose. #-o
Upon reopening FF, I was still logged in and reposted an ad. Then I logged out and got cowed on next login attempt.

So I disabled a bunch of extensions and was able to log in. Then I enabled them one-by-one as I logged out, enabled one, refreshed page then tried to log in.
And after re-enabling ALL of them I'm still able to log in.

So I re-opened FF and am STILL able to log in.
But there was a message and link displayed at the top of the Craigslist page:

I'm using FF 56.0.2, what more does it want? Never seen that before.
It only happened once, so...whatever.

I'm currently able to log out/in and post, even after re-opening FF a few times, so I hope it lasts, but hoping and wishing never got me far.

On a side not, does it make a difference in CPU usage to have 90+ tabs  in one window vs split between 3 or 4 windows?
I want to stop using Chrome so I imported all the open tabs I had there so I can begin eliminating them.
I was using tab suspenders there, gotta look for such an ext. for FF now.

Okay, I'm seeing the "upgrade your browser" message again.

Possible that at some point in the past, you changed a Preference relating to protocols your browser may use.
Fire 750, bring back 250.
