Firefox 57 Slow and Laggy

Post by greshoff »

I upgraded to Firefox 567 only to discover it was very slow & laggy. I also could not find the screenshot tool which I use a lot. I disabled the 2 add ons I had but it made no difference. For now I have reverted to 56. Any ideas on how to get 57 working properly would be appreciated.

I see that you dried disabling 2 addons but have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
If no improvement using Safe Mode, do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

create a new profile

or
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager

This article explains how to selectively transfer Firefox user data and settings to a new Firefox profile

or reset your firefox profile to keep bookmarks and other stuff, read here please

(keeping bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, form data aso.)

The screenshot tool has been moved to the bottom of the Page Menu (the three dots that appear inside the address bar when the tab has a web page open).

Decided to create a new profile now as I had a little time, I restored my data as per instructions but FF57 is still slow and laggy (slow to respond). Any other suggestions?

Firefox 57 is impossible to use due to the very slow response time to mouse & keyboard. I am at a loss as how to rectify the issue. I have reverted back to FF 56

I have two machines an Asus net book running WIN 10 32 BIT atom N455 PROCESSOR. On this machine Firefox 57 runs fine. My other machine is a Dell with i7 processor Win 10 64 bit. On this machine Firefox 57 is terrible. It is slow and laggy mouse and keyboard changes and inputs are slow to respond.Firefox 56 was fine. Both machines have the exact same 57 compliant add ons.

it is not nice to cover other threads with own problems nor it is nice to post without using the given help. please read and do as advised.

Stasplayer is having the exact same issue as I am on one of his machines.

I have created a new profile and restored my data as per instructions but FF57 is still unusable

Just upgraded the standard one this morning, installed a new extension to take over for the older Free Download Manager integration.
The only issues I'm having so far is finding a substitute for NoScript, Password Editor and Cookie Controller.
Would really like to get those tabs below the navigation and search boxes, right now they're in the centre because the upgrade didn't fiddle with the menu bar.
Speed is not an issue here, just the way I like to work. Still using the ESR for now but if replacements come in for the aforementioned, I could live with it.
Too much work to move passwords to K-Meleon and QupZilla. Just need time to keep informed.
MODERATORS: Moving this post to General would be a good idea, I only just got started on 57 and will do any further posts to General discussion myself.
