I open Options/security etc until I get to my saved passwords, then do a screenshot. Works great. I am unaware of any malware that can decipher jpegs and steal info or identities that way

See this to learn how to backup bookmarks in Firefox without the need for any extensions.

Can't help you with backing up saved logins. I don't think an API for that type of operation has been completed yet.

Click the Library button, then click Bookmarks, and then click Show all Bookmarks at the bottom of the menu. In the Library that opens, click Import and Backup -> Export to HTML... Save the file somewhere safe that you can find again. Open your other browser, find their bookmarks management system and import the saved file.

Can other browsers import them only from an HTML file, or can they read places.sqlite also?

I've had varying luck with other browsers importing my current bookmarks from my Firefox profile, but probably because I have many profiles but only use a couple. So the other browsers usually end up importing an old set of bookmarks from a profile I don't use much or haven't used in a while. Most I have tried have a way to import from a file.

As far as saved user names and passwords in FireFox 57 Quantum
If you are using Windows then try PasswordFox

It still works on Windows 10 and FireFox 57.04 - tested ok

PasswordFox v1.58 - Extract the user names/passwords stored in Firefox
