SM 2.46 browser H.264+AAC video playback under Win-XP Pro

I recently stumbled upon this discussion thread and was wondering if this solution could be useful for SM 2.46 under Win-XP Pro, though the Adobe plugin mentioned is not included with the SM 2.46 installation:

I would be interested to hear of any useful insight into this subject. I'm aware that Win-XP doesn't have a native H.264 codec, which is an issue.

From what I recall, I did not get that to work in SeaMonkey, WinXP.

Are you suggesting that you have already tried to install the Adobe Primetime Content Decryption Module in Seamonkey browser and subsequently could not get H.264 video playback to work? That plug-in seems to be included with Firefox. I'd like to know if it's possible to download it somewhere.

Correct.

I think... what I tried was setting the Prefs as needed in SeaMonkey & copying the Plugin (from FF) into seamonkey/plugins/...

Not sure that procedure would result in the correct installation of a plug in, as many plug-ins no longer use the PLUGINS folder within the Seamonkey program folder. For example, Flash player installs elsewhere and not in the SM browser's plugins folder any longer, even under Win-XP. It would be necessary to have the original plug-in installer to do the job right, which is why I'd like to have the plugin installer.

Interesting. I stumbled on this to find a solution in Mageia 6 Linux. Same thing. No plugins folder. I want to use either H.264 or x264 as a plugin. Any ideas on how to get one of them recognized by Seamonkey?

This was about SeaMonkey on WinXP and not Linux. Microsoft does not provide the codecs needed for HTML5 player for WinXP as they do for Windows Vista and later which is why the OP was looking for work arounds.

If you are not able to fully use the HTML5 player at youtube then your problem could be due to not having needed FFmpeg packages installed as Gstreamer has not been used for quite some time now.

On Linux if you have everything needed then all checks should be blue on https://www.youtube.com/html5/

You can make a plugins folder in /home/username/.mozilla/ to put Plugins in.

Have not needed this for HTML5 player to fully work in Firefox and SeaMonkey on Linux.
