Do to the fact that the 57 Version has destroyed the Add-On Session manager ...
I had a 56 Version working on a second computer.
To avoid the update I have set "update" to "Ask bevore" ...
BUT ... after the next shut down .. FF was updated to 57 !
I have seek for the old version ... I have fund a big information about this . I have downloaded a 56 Version and I have installed the old version ... and ... I have still the 57 Version.
I am not very happy.
I have not yet tested if FF 56 wil not have a forced update to 57 when I uninstall first the 57 Version ... and I do not know if the profile was altered by the 57 Version.
Is there some one, who know what I can do to go back to the old version? Or do some one know a way to extract the site Names from the session Manager into à text processing programm? Or better into a libre office calc sheet (to be able to sort all, to destroy doubles and then to click on each page to load the page and to put it in the bookmarks, if needed ?
Thanks

Two things:
1. Don't use "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them."
Use "Never check for updates ( ...)" and remember to check yourself manually.
2. Disable Mozilla Maintenance Service - that can force updates to occur almost immediately after installing an older version.

Last item, were you using a Session Manager extension in Fx 56?

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

Download Basilisk browser which is a fork of Firefox 55: http://www.basilisk-browser.org/
It fully supports all legacy extensions such as the session manager you were referring to and you can go to the usual https://addons.mozilla.org/ site and download all of the extensions you had installed prior to FF57.
If you use Classic Theme Restorer, download the 1.7.3.2beta1 which the developer released to address an issue with the location bar ceasing to function with the previous version.
Basilisk creates its own directory which means you can keep Firefox 57 if you wish.
During the installation though, Basilisk doesn't provide the option to import data from Firefox which means you'll have to install extensions manually either by downloading them from the AMO site, or by dragging the XPI file from the firefox 57 profile/extensions folder. Same goes for your bookmarks so make a backup to HTML via the Library (Ctrl+Shift+B).
I've been using Basilisk myself for a couple of days now and it's both stable and fast.

My session manager, Xmarks, and other legacy add-ons are working. Here is how I downgraded to FF v56.

Your link has this very relevant post in it: Fx ESR us updated and all extensions work on Fx ESR that work on Fx56:
