AV1 demo in today's Nightly.

They've gotten very good at sneaking changes into mozilla-central. I did not see this one coming.

The AV1 demo crashes for me after playing for few seconds, even in a new profile.

For me it crashed when the amount played caught up to the amount downloaded.

Is that video a bunch of stills? That is what it looks like to me: a new frame about once per quarter minute. And if I switch to another tab (so this becomes hidden) and then later switch back, there is a 10-second stall in the sound.

Am I suppose to enable anything to get it to improve up to the level of unacceptable, or is it suppose to be a disaster?

I'm glad when I play YouTube videos I don't get such stuttering pictures in playback.

It worked great for me with Linux. The picture was moving, in real time, and the sound matched the video. Worked in browser windows of different sizes and in full screen. There were some possible artifacts in places, but they could have been part of the original movie.

I used my regular profile and also a new profile, no differences. I clicked forward in one test to simulate the out-of-data situation and had no problem.

Your CPU may not be fast enough. I noticed that it takes about 25% CPU here at 720p which is about triple VP9 CPU usage on my machine.

CPU could be a problem, but I have a 2.5 year old processor and watching the video only takes 10% of a core.

Ubuntu with i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.50GHz.

Where does one see if the WebRender is turned on or not? How should it be set by default on version 56.02? What is its purpose?

Thanks.

I don't think it's the CPU... I have an AMD FX 8320 and it's playing the video perfectly, no slow downs or crashes and seems to be using less CPU than VP9 would??

Unless you are talking about that screencast link which just tells me I need Flash player lol...
