How to find the location/folder of bookmarks
I know how to search for bookmarks, that is not my issue. How do I figure out in which folder the bookmark is located? When I search for bookmarks I need to know where they are located within all my bookmark folders. It seems to me that should be key information "Folder" should be one of the headers.

Re: How to find the location/folder of bookmarks
Are you looking for where in your system the bookmarks are stored or individual bookmarks in your bookmarks menu?

Re: How to find the location/folder of bookmarks
There are no Bookmarks folder(s) on your hard-drive. Your bookmarks data are stored in the file titled places.sqlite. The icons data associated with your bookmarks are stored in the file titled favicons.sqlite. Both of those files are stored in your Profile folder. For more information see these webpages:

There's no such functionality in Firefox (bug 469421, bug 469441). There were a couple of add-ons that did this, but the author removed them and they probably weren't portable to webextension format anyway.lolaiii wrote:How do I figure out in which folder the bookmark is located?
You could try Bookmark Manager and Viewer or some other bookmark manager add-on and see if it's any better.

I know it doesn't exist. My inquiry is backed by hope that those who build FF will add this ability. How does one get to those builders?

You can submit feedback at https://input.mozilla.org if you like.
The developers are already aware of this shortcoming. Unless you're going to contribute a patch to fix bug 469441 yourself, there's no point in contacting them.

All they have to do is add a folder/path or whatever column to the library. I don't get the problem. This should have been in firefox 10 years ago.

If I knew how to write code I'd give it a try.Gingerbread Man wrote:You can submit feedback at https://input.mozilla.org if you like.

Re: How to find the location/folder of bookmarks
Just for reference: my old one is called Show Parent Folder.
Negativeions--
It was there 10 years ago, and maybe 15 years ago. I still use it in 52ESR, with about 1800 bookmarks.

So how do the rest of us get it?

Obviously, I meant Mozilla should've added the column as an option in the library natively in firefox like 10 years ago. In fact, it should've been there since firefox 1.0. I mean, it's just common sense to have it.

Re: How to find the location/folder of bookmarks
Load the bookmark into a new tab. Click the star button in the address bar. Expand the folder location to see where the bookmark is stored in your bookmark hierarchy. A poor workaround to having the information front and center, but it solves your immediate need.
