Adding a Profile Picture?
Hey guys, brand new to Thunderbird!
How do you add a profile pic? I don't see this option anywhere in the Account Settings, am I looking in the wrong place?
TIA

Re: Adding a Profile Picture?
Select a contact in the address book , edit -> contact properties, select the photo tab and then use the browse button to select a jpeg image file. I don't know what the size/resolution limits are for that image but I'd expect it to be similar to avatars on web sites. Our web site limits a avatar to 100 pixels x 100 pixels.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_folders gives detailed instructions for how to download and install the ImportExportTools add-on. You should be able to use that to figure out how to do the same for a different add-on.

OK I've installed display contact Photo,
I've gone to the preferences, where it says choose a default photo, I only see "Mozilla Default" as an option. How do I add more options?
thanks.

Re: Adding a Profile Picture?
Don't choose "Generic photo". Look at the radio button just below it and select "On this computer". That will let you use the Browse button to import a jpeg image file stored on your hard disk. That is using the built-in functionality. Get that working and setup before you start trying to use the display contact photo add-on to display one of the imported jpeg files when reading/composing a message.

there does't seem to be such an option on the general Settings tab.

I have to say....
upon first impression this seems very un-intuitive. This should only take a few mins to set up. Hoping this client is more user friendly and robust once this is set up.....

"there does't seem to be such an option on the general Settings tab."
You need to add the photo using the built-in feature in the address book first. That way there is a photo to select using the add-on. I had no problem adding the photo or installing the add-on, but the add-on doesn't appear to work. I bumped the maximum size photo it supports to make certain that was not a issue. It doesn't display the default photo for other contacts either.
Looking at the add-ons web page comments it looks like its broken. Sorry about that. The other one apparently still works, based on the comments. I haven't tried it since I'm using a userChrome.css to hide the headers in the message pane.

Should I remove Display Contact Photos and keep Contact Photo enabled?

Re: Adding a Profile Picture?
I'd uninstall the broken add-on. See if that workaround any problems with the contact photo add-on. I renamed my chrome\userChrome.css file so that it gets ignored, installed the second add-on and restarted. It works for me. You can chose different icons for contacts without a photo but unfortunately you can't totally disable it for contacts with no photo.
I've never gotten a message with a contact photo attached. I've seen support for it in various email clients but it was never clear to me who used it a lot. Is it something popular with OS X? I'm using Windows 10.
