There are so many windows users investigating the file type of {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}.xpi that this should be reminded to clarify:
1 - the file type of a file is not determined at all by the ".xyz" letters of its name; Linux even doesn't care at all of this .xyz extension.
If a real/true gif image.
gif file is renamed image.
jpg, image.jpg is still a
gif file !!
2 - 7zip is absolutely not a file type, but a tool to open compressed files, which file types can be:
7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, TAR, APM, ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, LZMA2, MBR, MSI, MSLZ, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR et Z.
Linux has just one command to identify the file type which is simply:
file <filename>
For windows, there is tool called
TrID [File Identifier] which can be downloaded here:
http://mark0.net/soft-trid-e.html
I cannot try it on windows because no windows available (no result on linux).
There is something wrong in the file header of Firefox xpi files which headers start by: "
00 00 00 00 50 4B", while extension file headers start with "
50 4B".
Bug or not, I don't know.
I remind that the question / the subject is just: what is the
file type of {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}.xpi (nothing more).
