Firefox 57
Windows 10
Some time ago, I turned off the frequently visited websites list that was appearing in a new tab. This is a separate problem.
I have a Firefox icon in the taskbar. When I right-click on the icon, the resulting window includes a list of "frequently" visited sites. Oddly enough it's not really the mostly frequently visited sites, but that's moot because I don't want to see that list. At all. Ever.
Please help me make it go away.

Not completely sure if this is the setting to stop that... assuming I understand your issue...
But in about:config there is this setting....
browser.taskbar.lists.frequent.enabled;true
Mine is set to true but if you double click on it it will set to false. Try it to see what you get... if it doesn't work for you, you can always set it back. I just checked it on my test profile and as soon as I set it to false the sites no longer displayed.
