App.Mediaplex interference

Post by Ray Bell »

Two days ago I started getting this dialog box pop up on my Firefox screens:

Image

As I was away from home and using a motel's wi-fi I thought it might have been something to do with that, but the name isn't consistent with that and it's happening now at home anyway.

How do I get rid of this pop-up, please?

Lots of complaints around this thing - on all browsers, OSes and devices. According to the conversation on this website, it appears to be connected to some sort of problem with a Fairfax news website web analytic.

My guess is that in order for you to connect to that Motel's wi-fi system you were asked to install some software. And now that software still wanting to logon to their system everywhere else, even from your home connection and not just from an external wi-fi connection.

I wonder if your computer is plugged into your router directly, not using a wireless connection, if that "box" may not appear?

See if this - https://www.wikihow.com/Remove-the-Medi ... r-Computer - helps you get rid of that garbage.

You do have to log in to the motel wi-fi, but not software is required.

I'll try that fix and report back.

No go with that...

It sends you to the 'add ons' and suggests deleting ones you don't recall. I only have two and I remember putting them on a few months ago. The problem is now two days old.

Speedy, I'm not keen to clear any cookies, I rely on them to keep my passwords etc...

Any other suggestions?

What about programs installed in Windows?

Do you see any programs that you don't recall specifically installing?

What happens if you restart in Safe Mode?

Where & at what point do you get that popup?

Do you also get the popup in IE?

Of course I worry about passwords...

I always tried to have just one password, but in time different forums, different sites, different people all put different requirements on passwords.

Anyway, I don't have the problem any more. Just as quickly as it came it has gone away again.
