Firefox Only Opens in Background After Removing All Instance

I see similar threads to this but I haven't gotten a solution yet. I can't open Firefox to run it in safemode as detailed in other support threads so that's no help. I've also closed all instances of the program via Taskmanager and tried reopening to no avail. I've tried running as administrator and in different compatibility modes as well but no go.

I'm in Windows 10 and I'm going to try a system restore.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

Thank you. After trying a few things there, I discovered that Firefox would again open if I deleted the profiles.ini file. The problem of course is that all of my bookmarks are in there. I restored the deleted file from my Recycle Bin and the issue returned, so it's definitely that file.

I have since moved that file to my desktop so I still have access to it. My question is, is there a way to tweak this file so that it opens Firefox properly again but without sacrificing my bookmarks?

Without knowing what's wrong in that profiles.ini file it's hard to say what to do to fix it. It might be easier for you to create a new profile ( http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_ne ... on_Windows ) and migrating the bookmarks from the old profile to the new. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _-_Firefox

Okay I was able to restore my bookmarks from a file in the folder associated with that profile. There's still a ton of stuff in that profile folder which isn't in my new profile folder and I'm wary of just copying and pasting it all. I'm not entirely sure what most of it is for but I'm assuming it's things which I want associated with my new profile (minus the won't open bit).

So again but after I've done more exploring, my question I guess is still is there a good way of getting my old profile to open without issue?

Okay, I guess the bookmarks were the main thing and since I resolved that I won't worry about it and anything else I need I can pick back up as I go along. Thanks for the help again.
