Re: Looking Glass extension
I'm sure it was worth it for 674 airings of their Firefox commercial in return...

I've read that thing was instaled only in the US on "Windows" machine (i don't know for Mac) and not on Linux. But I only read it, not confirmate.
If it's true, that's mean "they" having a target.
Edits: Ok It's on Linux to, and other Country...

English speaking country, or do you have an English version of Firefox installed?
https://blog.mozilla.org/firefox/update ... glass-add/Instead of giving users the choice to install this add-on, we initially pushed an update to Firefox that installed the “Looking Glass” add-on for English speaking users.

According to Mozilla, Shield Studies must be approved by: a Firefox Product Manager, Data Steward, Legal, QA, Release Management, AMO review, and a member of the core Shield team.
Apparently none of them saw a problem with this.

A question.
If Mozilla did this, upload an add-on and installing it via the "studies" thing. A hacker can do it?

Mozilla can only do it, when in Options => Privacy & Security => under 'Data Collection and Use' : you have 'Allow Firefox to install and run studies' checked.
But hackers are pretty clever though ......

I don't know about bandwidth, but Firefox 57 and 58 are definitely more responsive with that lot gone. I had a big hang before the last session tabs appeared and that's gone now.elist74 wrote:Off topic Question.
Is those telemetry things use some bandwidth and slow down internet (for limited internet account or 56k modem ) (BTW not my case )
No and there would be no point. All the 'good stuff' is in the user profile and that's what hackers would target.elist74 wrote:A question.

I'll tell you something as well, if AMO don't very quickly go back to doing human reviews before allowing WebExtensions to go public, then people are soon going to find out what hackers can do.
These Chrome WebExtension devs are a totally different breed to the Firefox extension devs that you're used to.
