Embedded twitter The media could not be played Fix

Post by c627627 »

What do I need to install to play the example embedded twitter video where it says @elonmusk on this page:
http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/23/technol ... unch-trail
[So not the top video, the Twitter @elonmusk video.]

EDIT.
SOLUTION:

security.csp.enable
from true to FALSE to temporarily fix this official Firefox bug that won't be fixed until the next official Fx release.

You don't need to install anything. Click 6:50 PM - 22 Dec 2017 below the tweet text to open it on Twitter. It should play just fine there.

As for embedded tweets not playing, I don't know why that happens. I've seen Chrome and Edge users report the same issue. Browser Console shows some Content Security Policy errors; maybe there's a server misconfiguration or browser bug somewhere.

Gingerbread Man, yes, but the thread question is embedded, trying to get Firefox to do what other browsers do, play embedded video without opening them separately.
I am looking through the link James posted for the answer, but forgive me if I do not see it, I hope you don't mind if I ask where the answer is in your link James?

Embedded plays fine in other browsers, therefore this is clearly strictly a Firefox limitation. If for whatever reason it cannot be done in Firefox, I would understand, was just hoping to enable it [if it can be enabled], perhaps through an additional installation or through a settings change?

Not working in Edge either so only some "Other browsers" work. Care to share?

Gingerbread Man, that doesn't seem to work either.

I've also tried safe-mode and a completely clean profile.

Here's an example page with lots of embedded video tweets, pretty useful to test with:

Thank you for posting that test link which can easily confirm that Firefox alone displays "The media could not be played" error. I also have a multi boot where I can test this on multiple Operating Systems and multiple browsers to confirm they all can play embedded test videos, but Firefox cannot.

Details:
Both Windows 8 and 10 conform the same behavior.
Chrome and Internet Explorer can play embedded video. Microsoft Edge under Windows 10 *can* play embedded test video, meaning the poster who posted that it could not: if your Edge cannot, it is limited to your system, whereas: no default Firefox on any system can play posted embedded test videos [please correct this if wrong].

If this Firefox limitation is by some sort of design, it would helpful to know, but sometimes / usually there are ways to disable Firefox default behavior so the main question still stands on what's the way to make Firefox play embedded video? Or if it cannot, then why not....

I have the same situation.

My solution is to search for a similar article with a better feed. If I don't find one easliy my soultion to to drop it and say 'to hell with it'. :-)

The links posted here I can play by clicking on the 'sub-link' that was suggested. However I have seen other pages that do not have that link. Next time I see one I will post it here.
