Need help diagnosing why FF has 4 process running at same ti

Post by metalman228 »

Hello all, i have the newest quantum version of FF 57 and now I have 4 processes running simultaneously. This seems to be slowing the "faster" browser, via a slower PC speed. Is this normal??

I have a screen shot but i ain't taking the time to figure out how to insert it.

Well, that was intense reading.
I can infer the following from that article:
A) 4 processes is the new normal for FF.
B) There is nothing i can do, nor would you want to.
C) I must learn to love looking at 4 processes no matter how much i dont think its "normal"
D) I must go have a beer and enjoy my slow PC and Xmas!!

You can disable multiprocess / electrolysis / e10s if you choose. For most people multiprocess will provide benefits - responsiveness, perhaps higher general speed, and perhaps Firefox would continue to run after a tab crashes.
For some people multiprocess may be worse. To turn it off, go to about:config, accept the warning if it is shown, then find these set them to false:
browser.tabs.remote.autostart
browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2
browser.tabs.remote.desktopbehavior
Then restart (close, wait a minute, reopen) the browser. If you like it better single process, great. If you don't like it, go back to those settings and right click on them and do "reset" to change them to the default.
