Re: Seamonkey slow to load home page at start up
BTW I'm using RAM disk image for browser's cache:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/imdisk-toolkit/
It is way much faster than HDD or even SSD (and is not deprecating SSD NAND cells when Read/Write).
Website are loading pretty fast, I say.

another profile is behaving the same way now. Don't know what changed but again Google as the home page takes about 30 seconds to load up.
Tried some of the suggested settings TPR75 suggested, unfortunately no improvement. Also, bumped up the version back to 2.49.1.
Guess I'll have to live with it. I'm stumped.

OK. have some additional info.
I never paid any attention to this before but when opening SM, in the lower left hand corner SM shows what it is connecting too or trying to connect too. Google is my home page as mentioned earlier, but upon opening SM the following appears in the lower left corner:
-Waiting for www.google.com about 7 seconds before search box appears
-Transferring data from www.google.com about 15 seconds before the blue, red, yellow graphic appears.
-Read data from www.google.com about 2 seconds
-Waiting for www.google.com about 6 seconds
-Transferring data from adservices.google.com about 5 seconds
Doesn’t matter if a search term is put into the search box or not.
A returned search will not occur until the above is completed. SM works fine after the initial load.
Unaffected profiles are less than 2 seconds to complete the above and search terms respond immediately.

S, why don't you try an innocuous home page that loads initially!?!

Good thought.

OK. tried about:blank. loaded instantly. Showed Done in the lower left corner instantly. Seamonkey bubbles (in upper right corner) stopped just as fast.
Then tried a single homemade web page with a couple lines of text on a hosting site I have access to and set it as the home page. Took 20 seconds to load and to show done in lower left corner.

Depending on how fast your internet interface it, that might be about right.
And, yes, I figured your particular home page being slow to load might be your problem.

The other thread mentioned (Google) Safe Browsing causing slowdowns - for some.
Can't hurt to disable & see if that makes any difference.
Why safebrowsing folder contents can cause a big slow down

I'm not sure what you mean by internet interface but I have another PC that is a pentium P4 with XP which loads fast that is right next to this box. Maybe this particular Win7 machine is at fault.

Deleted all the files in the safebrowsing folder and homepage loading is fast again, for now.
I'll revisit the forum next weekend. have a good week all, Frank too.

I too am seeing a definite cause & effect when using a "bad" /safebrowsing/.
5.1.8.4rc1: Eats 50% CPU on browser startup

Makes me glad I run my systems, including SeaMonkey, lean and clean...with virtually no apps.

Re: Seamonkey slow to load home page at start up
So a week has gone by since my last post and since deleting the contents of the Safebrowsing folder, the home page is still loading fast. Don't know if this is a permanent cure but things are good at the moment.
Pete, I run lean and clean as well along with default settings and have never had a problem until recently. But it's working for now and has all week unlike previous when it would tank within 24 hours.

S, what do you feel led to the resolution...different home page? Otherwise?
