Hi guys 'n' gals,

Here's a goodie for you to peruse...

Affects both Firefox & Google's Chrome browsers.

Real nice of them.

The Firefox add-on FF Helper Protection shows similar traits.
this was dicsussed earlier here and elsewhere:
https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/2 ... rotection/

its this type of "firefox need an (urgent) update" which locks the tab and firefox with a htaccess loop.
protected users with a decent adblocker dont have a problem to close such crap. resolved with firefox 58.
(cant find it accidentally)

in fact firefox asks before installing an extension
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/un ... l-software

the exception list (blocked) is very long here - i think that is part of the safe-list feature because i did not entered it. "allow" exceptions are for mozilla pages but i deleted them.

There are a few related ones listed for blocking at addons.mozilla.org/blocked/ and I know a few others with FF at start of name are being looked at like FF AntiVirus Check, FF Tool AdBlock. All from the same sort of "Firefox requires a manual update" scam mentioned in that malwarebytes link. You also know they are fake when they use the wrong abbreviation for Firefox ;)

Overall this new fake Firefox update scam is a bit more convincing compared to this old one https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/i- ... fox-update

firefox 58 solved the problem with locked windows with htaccess mask, but some notices that this is not solved at all.
due ublock i never got such window, some where opened with ebay pages (ads), there is no need for adware on the system.
